After a week off due to rain the East Boston Knights were back in action on Monday night at “The Stadium” to take on the West Roxbury Nationals. The Knights sent John Tangherlini to the bump to take on Olyn Brea. The Knights struck first in the 2nd inning on a Brett Remon homerun and a Brian Maynard triple to go up 3-0. That was all the offense the Knights really needed as Tangherlini and Billy Riggeiri dominated on the mound for the home town team. Riggeiri (2-0) came on in relief to earn the victory. The Knights scored 11 runs on 10 hits including 3 homeruns by Brett Remon, Victor LeBron and Kenny Polanco. “This lineup grinds out at bats and finds ways to get on base. They also have the ability to hit for power which we got to see tonight” said manager Eric Bellavia. The Knights earned 7 extra base hits on the night and beat the Nationals 11-1 in 6 innings.
RRBL Knights recap:
6/15/14
AVON, MA – Looking to regain their winning ways, the Knights travel to Avon to try and start a winning streak after sinking the Indians last week. The Knights sent Eduardo Colmenares WP (6IP, 9K, 3H, 2BB) to the hill in his first start of the year. He showed how dominant he can be when not holding a bat as he mowed down 9 Royals on the way to victory. Colmenares (2-3; HR, 2RBI, SB, BB, K) helped his own cause by knocking in the first Knights runs on a home run to left-center.
The barrage of hits extended to almost all Knights as 5 players managed a multi-hit game and 3 had home runs of their own. Andy Marques (1-2; HR, BB,2R) solidified himself in the line-up by hitting his first career grand-slam in the 4th inning. Clemente Parra (2-4; 2R), Gus Polidor (2-3; 2R, HBP) and John Scull (2-3; 2B, 2 RBI, R) all came around to score – each with 2 hits apiece. Brian Maynard (2-3; HR, 2B, RBI) added to the total after scoring in the 5th inning and added a solo home-run in the 6th.
While coming through in the clutch at the plate, Marques also came on to pitch in the 7th inning recording two strikeouts and allowing one hit. This was Marques first appearance on the hill for the Knights this season. With the win this morning, the Knights won consecutive games for only the second time this season while leading the conference in runs scored. The Knights are back playing this Wednesday at 8PM at Peabody High School taking on the struggling Thunder.
