Trees that were down and blocking Maverick Street following the storm were cut and removed with the aid of Massport’s facilities department.
The Director the department, Gary Tobin, spotted the downed trees on his way to work on Sunday and called in to his office and ordered vehicles and cutting equipment and Massport employees as well to respond with aid in the effort to clean-up the street.
Residents immediately came out of their homes to thank the Massport employees for their support in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, which was downgraded to a tropical storm but did some damage locally never the less.
Upon request, Massport aids the city of Boston in a variety of ways during snow storms and emergencies.
“Massport is always willing and able to assist the East Boston community with incidents like this,” said Massport spokesperson Phil Orlandella.
