Eastie Farm Hosts Fall Equinox Celebration

Special to the Times-Free Press

Eastie Farm held a Fall Equinox Celebration in coordination with the first day of the fall season at its 6 Chelsea Terrace site.

Many residents attended the festive event that included complimentary foods that were grown at Eastie Farm, cooking demonstrations, and a musical performance by Zumix singers.

Executive Director Kannah Thiruvengadam eloquently summarized the event, “We’re celebrating the Fall Equinox at Eastie Farm. Our agricultural cycle, our natural cycle, what grows, what we harvest, what we wear – how many layers of clothing – all of that is dictated by the relationship between the sun and the earth. We’re marking equinox solstices so we can all be in harmony with the rhythms of nature and to honor that and to celebrate that, and also to connect with each other.”

Thiruvengadam said Eastie Farm remains open throughout the year. “Now that we have a greenhouse that operates with renewable energy, we’re a yearlong facility.”

Eastie Farm is a true agricultural success story and a national model for urban farms.

“Eastie Farm is doing really well,” said Thiruvengadam proudly.

With the large turnout on an NFL Sunday, the Eastie community showed its appreciation to the Eastie Farm Team and the work it is doing in the community.

“It’s the community that created this space, so all the appreciation actually goes to the community,” said Thiruvengadam.
