Lina Capogrego

She was a kind and empathetic soul, truly loved by all

Lina Capogrego was born in Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, Calabria Italy. She moved to America in 1961 and settled in East Boston. Together with her husband, Vincenzo of 62 years as of October 6, she raised a deeply rooted loving family. She was a fiercely loyal wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.  Lina was an extraordinary cook and an avid gardener. Despite her long illness, she continued to find joy in her family, preserving her Italian traditions and cherishing her grandson. She was a kind and empathetic soul, truly loved by all, a woman who was part of the lifeblood that makes East Boston such a warm and welcoming community.

On Sundays, Lina’s kitchen door was always open to friends and extended family and it wasn’t a big surpise if Boston luminaries showed up for a glass of homemade wine.  Among them, the late Mayor Thomas M. Menino who liked to brag about Lina’s food. At her table, Lina didn’t just feed her guests, she lent them an ear and offered invaluable advice with her unwavering gentle smile.

Part of Lina’s unfettered charm was always putting others first. She instilled those values upon her family to always remember family and to always be kind, a legacy that her children, Pasquale, Maria and Lisa have never failed to carry forward. Her love will always be in our hearts and she will forever be our dearest Signora Lina to her immediate family and the enormous circle of people who were grateful and blessed to have known her.

Lina is survived by her beloved husband, Vincenzo, her adoring children Maria Capogreco, Pasquale Capogreco and his partner, Holly Clark and Lisa Cappuccio; dear siblings, Catherine Schirripa and Vincenzo Fazzolari and cherished grandson, Christian.
