Mary Peterson

Of Rhode Island, formerly of East Boston

Mary M. Peterson, 81, of Kingston, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8 with her devoted husband and loving family by her side.

Born and raised in Somerville to Margaret J. (Corbett) and Peter George G. Cernada (who later moved to East Boston), Mary then moved to Kingston, Rhode Island with her husband John, where they raised their five children.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, John F. Peterson of Kingston, RI, her loyal and loving brother, George P. Cernada and his wife, Eleanor of Amherst and her five cherished children and eight treasured grandchildren: Gary M. Peterson and his wife, Carrie of Oregon City, Oregon and their son, James; Mary Migliori of Wakefield, RI and her children with Donald Migliori, Donald and Gloria; Margaret Norberg and her husband, John of Duxbury and their daughters: Maggie, Eleanor, Mary and Clara; John Samuel Peterson of Kingston, RI and his son with Elena Puyo, Peterson, Marco and Sarah Peterson of Wakefield, RI. Mary also is survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved as her own children. Mary was predeceased by her dearest sister, Joan Dalton.

Mary lived a life full of devotion to her family, close friends and God. A woman of strong Catholic faith, she attended daily mass at St. Francis Parish in Wakefield, RI and St. Thomas More Parish in Narragansett, RI. 

Mary attended St. Joseph’s Grammar and High School and was a resident of Caldwell Avenue and Beacon Street in Somerville.  Later in life, Mary proudly graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in English and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Throughout her life Mary was entirely devoted to her husband, her children and her grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on  Monday, March 14  at the Church of St. Thomas More in Narragansett, Rhode Island.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s name to The Church of Saint Thomas More, Rockland St., Narragansett, Rhode Island.

Maria Biancardi

Of Peabody, formerly of East Boston and Italy

Maria Napolitano Biancardi, born March 6, 1929, passed away on April 2, 2022 at the age of 93. 

She was born in Cimitile, Italy and migrated to the United States in 1966, settled in East Boston and eventually moved to Peabody.   She was a seamstress by trade and spent many years working at P&L Sportswear until she retired.  She enjoyed singing Italian songs, trips to Old Orchard Beach, Bingo, ice cream at Richardson’s, coloring and just spending time with family.  

The beloved wife for 60 years of the late Donato Biancardi, she was the devoted mother of Umberto Biancardi and his wife, Jodi and Gelsomina Long and her husband, Alan and the late Filomena “Mena” Buonopane and her surviving spouse, David, all of Peabody. She was predeceased by two sisters, Vincenza Russo and Marfissa Siniscalchi and three brothers, Pasquale Napolitano, Francesco Napolitano and Giuseppe Napolitano, all of Italy and the cherished grandmother of Rebecca Biancardi, Jessica Biancardi, and Sarah Long.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all in Italy.

Her funeral services are being held at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 10 Chestnut Street, Peabody on Thursday, April 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady of Assumption Church, 17 Grove Street, Lynnfield for a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.  The mass will celebrate the life of Maria and her late daughter, Mena.  All other services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 Tel: 1-800-272-3900.
