MassDOT announces overnight Route 1A closures

Starting on Sunday, Feb.9, there will be intermittent overnight road closures on both the northbound and southbound sides of Route 1A in East Boston.
MassDOT made the announcement Monday and said the closures are scheduled to take place over the next four weeks during the overnight hours of 11:59 p.m. through 5 a.m. During those four weeks the closures will take place on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
“The closures are necessary to allow crews to remove existing overhead guide sign structures and install new sign structures along Route 1A at several locations,” said MassDOT in a statement. “The work will require the closure of both northbound and southbound directions intermittently for 15 minutes at a time.”
MassDOT said traffic will be released after the 15 minutes, then once traffic clears, another 15-minute roadway closure will begin. This work will continue until all overhead guide sign structures have been installed.
“Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area,” continued the statement. “Drivers who are traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.”
All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency.
