East Boston Man Injured in Boat Fire

One East Boston man was injured when his boat caught fire at the Boston Shipyard and Marina on Marginal Street near Piers Park. Witnesses said they heard an explosion followed by fire that ultimately sunk the boat.

Both Massport and Boston Fire crews arrived on the scene to contain the fire to the boat’s slip. The cause of the fire is still unknown at press time but hazmat crews were on hand to contain the oil slick that was coming from the sunken boat.

While flames could be seen from across the harbor the two fire departments were able to put the blaze out relatively quickly.

The man injured was helped away by others at the marina and is being treated at the hospital for undisclosed injuries.
