We begin by joining the East Boston sports community in congratulating EBHS hockey coach Bob Anthony and his team on winning the 2015 Boston City League championship.
The Jets’ overtime victory over Latin Academy truly was one of the highlights of the winter season for the EBHS athletic program. The team fought hard against a very capable opponent and came away with an exciting victory, one the players will remember forever as they reflect on their high school careers.
We can only imagine how proud the late Anthony Albano – in whose memory the team dedicated its season – would have been of this outstanding group of Eastie athletes who played every game with teamwork and sportsmanship and brought so much credit to East Boston.
The Jets’ success reflects well on Bob Anthony and his staff of coaches, who brought out the best in their team. Anthony is a true legend in Boston high school hockey and an excellent teacher of the game. We also commend Anthony for his continuing support of cancer research through the annual hockey tournament held at Porrazzo Rink (This year’s proceeds went to a scholarship in honor of Anthony Albano).
We also want to congratulate East Boston High boys basketball coach Shawn Brown and his team for an exceptional season that saw the Jets post a 15-5 record and win a game in the State Tournament.
Under the direction of former coach Mike Rubin, East Boston was a perennial powerhouse for two decades, winning state championships during his Hall of Fame career. Shawn Brown is carrying on that winning tradition of Eastie basketball very well.
