There are two stories in this week’s East Boston Times Free Press about generous donations helping out East Boston families during the Thanksgiving holiday.
One is East Boston YMCA and the Stop & Shop Turkey Express in which that well-known supermarket company donated 250 turkeys to families for their enjoyment on Thanksgiving. This is an outstanding gesture by Stop & Shop and its supermarket located across from Suffolk Downs. Stop & Shop has been a good neighbor to East Boston residents and their Turkey Express program is another shining example of its charitable work in our community.
The other story focuses on State Rep. Carlo Basile and his extraordinary effort on Thanksgiving in hosting a holiday dinner for hundreds of East Boston residents. This year’s luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 27 at Sacred Heart Church Hall and it is free of charge.
Rep. Basile has organized this event for the past seven years and it has drawn a large turnout every year.
