Daniel ‘Danny’ Filippone

Member of Teamsters Union

Daniel “Danny” F. Filippone of East Boston died on December 19.

A US Airforce veteran of Korea and a member of Teamster Local 379, he was the beloved husband of Virginia (Smith) Filippone; loving father of Veronica Shaponick and her husband, Robert of East Boston, Dana DelPrato and Bill Mercurio of Saugus, Therese Sullivan and her husband, Peter of East Boston, Virginia Filippone of Derry, NH and Daniel Filippone II of East Boston and his partner, Paul Anselmi; dear father in-law to the late Richard DelPrato and Jack F. Reid; cherished grandfather of Richard, Mark, Megan, Jillian, Jacqueline, Jack, Justin, Erin and Ryan; loving great-grandfather of Walter and Faith; dear brother of Vittorio “Al” Filippone and his wife, Elena of Lynnfield and the late Benjamin, Gilda Olivia, Salvatore “Sam,” Mary Pomodoro and Tony and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. John Scoppettuolo

Of Medford, formerly of East Boston

John A. Scoppettuolo of Medford, formerly of Charlestown and East Boston, died on December 17. He was 79 years old.

A US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was the beloved husband of 26 years to Josephine (Ciulla) Scoppettuolo; devoted brother of Anthony Scoppettuolo of Wilmington, Eleanor Roderiques of New Hampshire, Julia Clausen of Florida, Mary Cimino of Medford, Josephine Scoppettuolo of Boston and the late Generosa Scoppettuolo and Theresa Shire. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, Charlestown.  Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Rosalie Crone

Of East Boston

Rosalie M. (DiGenova) Crone died suddenly in East Boston on December 14.

She was the beloved wife of the late William W. Crone; mother of Sheila Troiano and her husband, Rocco of East Boston; grandmother of Rocco Troiano Jr. and Valerie Connors and her husband, Kevin; special great-grandmother to Liam William Connors; daughter of the late Phillie (Coviello) and Mario DiGenova and sister of the late Gennaro DiGenova.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements were by Magrath Funeral Home.

William ‘Papa’ Pothier

Of Malden, formerly of East Boston

William A. “Papa” Pothier of Malden, formerly of East Boston, died on December 18.

A US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was the beloved husband for 52 years of Estelle (Doucet); dedicated Father, Role Model and Friend to Paul Pothier and his wife, Mary Ellen of Wilmington, Thomas Pothier and his wife, Robin of Tewksbury, Suzanne Olszak and her husband, John of Danvers, Peter Pothier and his wife, Debbie of Townsend, Joanne Catizone and her husband, Dante of Tewksbury, Roxanne Bournazian and her husband, Harry of Franklin and Leanne Guzman and her husband, Ignacio of Everett; son of the late Laurene and Ann Genevieve (Cotreau) Pothier; brother of Edwin Pothier of Revere, James Pothier of Taunton, Marjorie Delorey of East Boston, Ann Kramer of Taunton and the late Emilie Mascis; beloved grandfather to 27 beautiful grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Richard Morano

Retired Educator

Richard D. Morano of Winchester, formerly of Arlington and East Boston, died on December 17.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of Harvard University, Class of 1949 and an educator in the Boston Public School system.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary S. (Caliguri) Morano; loving father of Richard M. and his wife, Nancy of Upper Saddle River, NJ, David L. of Tampa, FL, Kathryn E. Villecco of Burlington, Paul, Deborah A. Morano and Peter Kean of Winchester, Mary S. Mitchell and her husband, Edward of Medford, Christopher A. and his wife, Marie and Elizabeth P. Morano of Winchester; dear grandfather of Richard, Joel, Raymond, Maria, Michelle, Anastasia, Kathryn, David, Susan, David, Michael, Tracey, Joseph, Susan, Christian, Ryan. Jillyan, Christopher, John, and their mother Jayne, Paul, and 29 great grandchildren and one late great grandchild. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Teresa, Concetta, Anna, Rose, Michael, Anthony, Mary, and Helen and is also survived by his sister in law Rita Abruzese of North Reading.

Long Active at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church

Ida M. (Rossi) Minerva of East Boston died on December 18.

A life long communicant and volunteer of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, East Boston as well as a Christian Mother and Eucharistic Minister, she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph with whom she shared 46 years of marriage; loving mother of Stephen Minerva and his wife, Ann Marie of Manchester, N.H.; dear sister of Ann Mancuso of Melrose, Vera D’Amore of East Boston and the late Louis and Henry Rossi; cherished grandmother to Stephen Minerva and Rachael Minerva and her fiancé, Eric all of New Hampshire; very special great-grandmother to Ava Grace and a surrogate mother and grandmother to Newman, Calla and the Fazzolari families.
