The owners and proprietors of Cucchiello’s Bakery in Day Square expanded their business a few years back to include a pizzeria/sub shop and beginning this week will offer delivery for their customers of their famous pizza and popular sandwiches.

“We tested selling pizza and subs out of the bakery in Day Square and that grew faster than we could have anticipated so we decided to offer delivery to keep up with the demand,” said Michael Cucchiello. “ A lot of people, especially our elderly customers, have been calling and asking us if we could deliver so we thought it would make sense.”

Since serving up hot and cold subs to go along with its usual fare of home-baked breads, deserts and pan pizza, business at Cucchiello’s has been booming.

“We usually have a pretty good lunch rush,” said Cucchiello. “Our Italian subs have been a big hit as well as our chicken parms, meatball and pepper and egg subs.”

All hands are on deck during the lunch rush and Cucchiello says the entire family pitches in.

“We all cook, me, my friend Anthony, my brother, it’s really like family in here so it’s a combined effort,” said Cucchiello.

The Cucchiello’s, East Boston natives have been in the food business for over 30 years, beginning with Logan Bakery owned by Frank “Ju Ju” Cucchiello.

The establishment later moved to Bennington Street where it was run be Michael Cucchiello Sr., Gabriel and Augustino Cucchiello.

According to Cucchiello the business kept getting bigger and bigger over the years causing the family to move the location of the business several times.

This latest move will allow the Cucchiello’s to keep their bakery going in Day Square while gaining a larger audience in Eastie through deliveries.
