Expanded Gambling: DeLeo Prepares Legislation

House Speaker Robert DeLeo has announced that he is planning to have an expanded gambling bill on the governor’s desk for his signature in September.

He made this announcement at the annual legislative luncheon in Winthrop, which was held by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce earlier this week.

His unambiguous remarks are a reflection of the shared interest both he and the governor and the state senate president are exhibiting on the expanded gambling legislation, which is the precursor to casino gambling.

Speaker DeLeo was accompanied by State Senator Anthony Petruccelli who said he believed the state senate will likely sign off on the legislation as well.

The governor and DeLeo are believed to be working closely together on the bill and its wording so that when it reaches his desk for his signature there will be no doubt he will sign it.

For Revere and East Boston and for all our surrounding cities and towns, this comes as great news because a casino at Suffolk Downs would create thousands of jobs, and hundreds of millions of dollars of private capital investment and when it is up and running, a new revenue stream for the state which will return a portion of it to the host cities of Revere and East Boston.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Thank you Senator Petruccelli.

Thank you, Governor Patrick.
