Knights Win Season Opener

In their Sophomore year, the East Boston Knights opened their 2011 Yawkey League Baseball season with a victory over the Stoneham Sabers.

Sean Hannon pitched 5 solid innings, striking out 7 and only allowing 2 hits.

Centerfielder Tyler Higgins and 1st Baseman Ace DiNapoli combined for 2 hits each but it was Catcher Juan Rosario, former farm-hand of the NY Yankees, who hit a 3-run homer in the 5th inning to put the Knights up 4 to 0.

The Sabres scored 2 runs against right-handed relief pitcher Josh Valerio in the bottom of the 5th, but that would be it for the rookie team.  Rosario drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the 7th inning to finish with 4 RBIs.

Higgins made a dramatic catch in the outfield to end the game, giving the Knights a most-deserved win.

The Knights open up at Satori Field in East Boston on Monday, May 16th, weather permitting, against the Brighton Minutemen.
