Harold German

Operated Pharmacy in East Boston for many years

Harold “Harry” German, a life long resident of Chelsea, died on Wednesday, April 6.

He attended Chelsea Schools, graduated from Mass. College of Pharmacy in 1944 and operated a pharmacy in East Boston with his late brother, Sidney, for many years. He was a member of the Orange Street Shule and served on the Chelsea Planning Board and Chelsea School Committee. He was also a City of Chelsea Alderman and was active in many civic organizations in Chelsea.

The beloved son of the late Samuel and Etta (Zimmerman) German, he was the dear brother of the late Sidney German and Betty Heitin; loving uncle of Leonard Heitin and Sybil Heitin Cramer and the great uncle of Michael Cramer, Ellen MacMullen, Felcia LaFauci and Samuel Heitin.

Sue Di Rienzo

East Boston resident

Sue Di Rienzo of East Boston died on April 9.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Felix and Rose (Rizzo) Di Rienzo; loving sister of Edith Di Rienzo of East Boston, the late Carmella Di Rienzo, Jean Faleta, Margaret Jones, Anthony Di Rienzo, Frank Di Rienzo and Steve Di Rienzo.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Albert LeBaron

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

Albert N. LeBaron, in Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly on April 9.

He was the husband of Melissa M. (Perry); loving father of Nikolas, Matthew and Alexander, all of Winthrop; beloved son of Mildred A. “Midge” (Todisco) of Winthrop and the late Albert H. LeBaron; brother of Kim Brancato of Winthrop and Shawn LeBaron of Bradford and is also survived by two nephews, three nieces, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Elizabeth C. (Heffron) Smith of East Boston died on April 10.

The beloved wife of the late Lt. Ernest C. Smith, BFD, she was the loving mother of Frederick Smith of Amesbury, Kimberly Smith of East Boston, Patricia A. Clifford and her husband, John D. Jr., of Amesbury and Paula L. Reilly and her husband, Kevin M., of Randolph; cherished grandmother of John D. Clifford III and his wife, Sherri, Patrick C. Clifford, Erin Reilly Gonick and her husband, Joshua, and Daniel K. Reilly; great-grandmother of Jackson D. Clifford; dear sister of the late William, Frederick, Margaret Grasso and Ruth Lang and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Cosmo Cardinale

Aluminun products company co-owner, DAV member

Cosmo Cardinale died unexpectedly on April 4 at his Peabody home. He was 90 years old.

A US Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he was born in Boston and lived in Peabody for many years. He was a co-owner of a aluminum products company, specializing in doors and windows and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was the beloved husband of Mary D. (Alimonti) Cardinale; dear and devoted father of Daniel Joseph Cardinale and his wife, Lynda, of Shrewsbury and Lynda Luise Mower and her husband, Don, of Campton, NH; loving grandfather of Christian Mower, Emily Mower and Daniel Joseph Cardinale, Jr.; brother of Peter and Orazio Cardinale of East Boston and the late Anna DiPerri and Mary DiPerri.

Helen Sweeney

Former East Boston resident

Helen F. (Cucinotti), formerly of East Boston and Revere, died suddenly on March 13. She was 63 years old.

She was the beloved mother of Robert Sweeney, formerly of East Boston, Marjorie Salvo and Judeth Pepe of Revere, and Claire Cedrone of Billerica. She is also the beloved grandmother of one granddaughter, four grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.

Michelina (Sordillo) Ciano of East Boston died on April 6.

She was the beloved wife of the late Raffaele Piccirillo and Michael Ciano; loving mother of Gianna Musella and her husband, Gianni, of Italy, Luciano Piccirillo and his wife, Jeanne, of Deptford, NJ, Ralph “Lello” Piccirillo and his wife, Eileen, of Peabody, Isa Sordillo, and Diana Grillo and her husband, Frank, both of East Boston; grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of 11. She is also survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Anne (Vellante) Saggese of East Boston died on April 9. She was in her 90th year.

The beloved wife of the late Pasquale “Pat” Saggese with whom she shared 64 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Joseph Saggese and his wife, Carmela, of Indiana and Gus Saggese and his wife, Tayna, of Saugus; dear sister of Ida Meoli of Saugus and the late Albert, Frank and Joseph Vellante and cherished grandmother of Adam, Stephanie, Gustin and Anthony Saggese and five great grandchildren.

Edward Whelan Sr.

Of Brockton, formerly of East Boston

Edward J. Whalen, Sr. of Brockton, a native of East Boston, died April 8. He was 70 years old.

He was the son of the late John E. and Irene M. (McLaughlin); beloved husband of Anne Marie (Strecker); loving father of Kerri Palmer and her husband, Brian, of Lewisville, Texas and Edward J. “E.J.” Whelan, Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Boston; devoted grandfather of Lindsay and Abby Whelan and Caroline, Allison, and Blake Palmer; brother of the late Paul Kevin Whelan; brother-in-law of Rita Whelan of Malden, and an uncle.

Revere resident

Rita (Napoleone) Lucente of Revere, formerly of the North End and East Boston, died on March 28 after a long illness. She was 82 years old.

A homemaker, she lived in Revere for most of her adult life.

She was the beloved wife of Michael Lucente Sr.; devoted mother of Anthony of Revere, Gina Farrell and her husband, Stephen, of Wakefield, Michael Jr. and his wife, Renee, of Westford; dear sister of Marie Napoleone of the North End and Umberto Napoleone of Westwood and is also survived by her five loving grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kathleen Farrell, Nicole, Marissa and Michael Lucente III and many nieces and nephews.

Camille N. (Ventre) Tremonte of Providence, RI, formerly of East Boston and Revere, died on April 5 following a long illness. She was 79 years old.

She was a member of the East Boston Social Center and a retiree of the Commonwealth of Mass (Div. of Long Term Care).

She was the cherished mother of Stephen D. Tremonte and his wife, Jay, of Revere, Cyndee Phoenix and her husband, Edward, of Providence, RI and the late Harold J. Tremonte Jr.; beloved sister of Charles Ventre and his wife, Geraldine, of Saugus and is also lovingly survived by eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Angela (DeStefano) Parisi of Revere, formerly of Venezuela, died recently.

She was the beloved wife of the late Luigi Parisi; devoted mother of Maria Esposito of Canada, Rosanna Digitale and her husband, Emilio, of Revere, Nora Furino and her husband, Sebastiano, of Italy, Felicia DeAndrade and her husband, Humberto, of Florida and the late Luigi Parisi; cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren as well as the late Venessa Digitale.

James B. “Jay” DeBay of Peabody, formerly of East Boston, died on April 5. He was 49 years old.

The loving son of the late Clyde and Eleanor (Rao)DeBay, he was the devoted father of Steven and Marisa DeBay, both of Danvers;  dear brother of Dianne Curry and her husband, Robert, of East Boston, Philip DeBay of Revere and Clyde Christopher DeBay of East Boston; former husband of Karen DeBay (Peterson) of Danvers and is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
