The Mayoral Team – Flaherty’s promise sends the wrong message

East Boston voters hoping for a change at city hall will not be impressed by the promise made by mayoral candidate Michael Flaherty to primary loser Sam Yoon.

Flaherty promised Yoon he could be the deputy mayor (a position which would have to be created) in return for Yoon’s support in the time up to the election final.

We call this quid pro quo at its very worst incarnation.

If such a promise can be accepted by a mayoral candidate, what happens if he were to become mayor?

To those wishing for change, Flaherty’s promise to Yoon is as jaundiced and old school Boston rear room politics as we’ve seen in years.

How could younger men promising so much change devolve to old time Boston politics with such eagerness?
