Cover up? Hardly – E-mail controversy is a tempest in a teapot

The big to-do that the Boston dailies are trying to trump up over a bunch of useless e-mails erased by the mayor’s assistant Michael Kineavy is truly a tempest in a teapot.

It is a hurricane without winds or rain, a tornado without a swirling funnel cloud, and an earthquake without a tremor — all rolled into one.

If mayoral challengers Michael Flaherty and Sam Yoon believe they will trump the mayor with this so-called e-mailgate, they are very mistaken.

And yet the dailies continue to play up the missing e-mail messages, whose entire message added together is a big nothing.

The mayor has already done his mea culpa for his errant staff member.

Let the reporters scour these e-mails carefully, as they did the last batch.

Not a secret will be found out. Not a underhanded deal to be found.

If all these lost e-mails say nothing whatsoever about anything underhanded or illegal – then will the dailies publish that story?

  • You're missing the point. The issue is not whether there is anything damning in the email. The issue is that Keneavy carefully deleted evey single piece of mail he ever sent in his capacity as a public employee. That's unethical, possibly illegal, and just plain sneaky.

  • why wouldn't you wait until the emails are revealed to trumpet this?

If I recall, the Globe wrote a story after the last batch that there was not much in there. I'm sure they'll do it again if you are correct.

  • The Boston dailies are simply letting us all know what is really going on in city government. The storm is real and it is time for Boston to kick it out of the city. Mayor Menino is the eye of it all and until we stand up against the wind it will keep knocking us down. For 16 years the center of it all has been building up strength becoming stronger and stronger but not necessarily in a good way.

Sorry, but it was not an "honest mistake" that all those emails were deleted. There is something they are hiding from us, the citizens of Boston. Growing up I was taught to look at our politicians with admiration and much integrity. With everything that has come out recently regarding city hall my views on Menino have been further tarnished!

I am believe that are city needs a new leader, someone who represents the truth and we can trust, that person is Michael Flaherty.

The vote on November 3rd is so important, we can actually make difference in the city for the better. I understand that politicians make some promises that they just cannot keep, but after 16 long years those promises should be met. Sorry but they're isn't much left we want you to do.

Flaherty-Yoon bring new innovative ideas that seem total foreign to the current mayor, like modern technologies to track crime that other cities across the country already put to use. Do you think it is fair that our city is held back by one person?

  • What you are not commenting on is the fact that the emails published were not the "deleted" ones from Kineavy's hard drive...they were emails from other city hall employees that Kineavy was cc'd on in some way...so whose to say that the real dirt wil ever be found?!?!? and for Menino's mea culpa...that was a joke too...they said it was nothing - how about AGAINST THE LAW?!?!? and Menino doesn't double delete b/c he doesn't use email or CH phones.... where can you file an FROI on him?!? no where, that's where... sad, sad minion you are....
