Eastie Farm Celebrates First Day of Spring and Hydroponic Growing System

On Thursday, March 20, Eastie Farm celebrated the Spring Equinox with a party and held a ribbon cutting to commemorate their acquisition of Field Farm, a new investment for growing fresh produce such as lettuce and leafy greens hydroponically.  They featured the new facility offering a popular and rewarding method for producing fresh, leafy greens requiring a soilless growing medium and a nutrient-rich solution.  The event was well attended offering insight into the agricultural programs offered here in East Boston.  The East Boston Chamber of Commerce was on hand along with Congressman Adrian Madaro and representation from Council Representative Gabriela Coletta Zapata’s office.  The community welcomed this addition to Eastie Farm’s operations as part of their mission pursuing urban agriculture, education, and building an equitable local food system.
