Camilo “Pop” Santana

7/15/1932 – 1/19/2025

Family, Friends, the Red Sox, the Lottery, and all sports on TV were of the utmost importance to him

Camilo Santana of East Boston, formerly of Arlington, passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH following a brief illness on January 19.

He was the middle child of nine children born to Angela Fondeur Fernandez and Amantino Santana Ramos on July 15, 1932, in Tamboril, Santiago, Dominican Republic.  Following schooling he moved to New York where he met the love of his life and eternal dance partner, Juana “Mercedes” Collado Santana.  They had 63 wonderful years together, raising a deeply cherished family in the Boston area. 

Camilo was affectionately known by all close to him as Pop.  A hard-working provider for his family, while being very nurturing and active in his children’s sporting activities.  He was also the glue between his siblings, always keeping in touch and up to date on family matters.  Seeing comedy in most situations while keeping peace was always his motto.  He took great pride in being a parent, and even more as a grandparent to his 14 grandchildren.    

He leaves behind his sister, Angela Pura Luz Martinez, his brother Máximo Santana, his sister Carmen Paula Santana, and his cousin, his best friend, Domingo Hernandez.  He was predeceased by his mother Angela Fondeur Fernandez, father, Amantino Santana Ramos, and his brothers and sisters: Eugenio Santana, Lázaro Santana, Elba Castillo, Aquile Santana, and Fe Esperanza Santana. 

Camilo was the beloved husband of the late Juana “Mercedes” (Collado) Santana with whom together they built a family filled with love and laughter.  He was a devoted father and survived by his loving sons: Camilo Santana and his wife Cindy and Eduardo Santana; his loving daughters: Nancy Ossinger and her husband Donald, Evelyn Santana-Nola and her husband Michael, Nelly Vozzella and her husband Anthony and his son in law, Scott Caldwell.  Additionally, he leaves his loving grandchildren: Brandon Ossinger and his wife Jenny, Alexander Ossinger, Austin Santana, Wes Caldwell, Andres Gautreau-Santana, Anthony Vozzella Jr., Tia Caldwell, Grace Santana, Stephen, Camilo and Gianna Vozzella, Ava Nola, Dominic Vozzella, and Leo Nola.  Camilo also leaves behind countless relatives and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to Camilo’s Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 1st at noon at the Immaculate Conception Parish, 216 East Dunstable Road, Nashua, NH

In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice House at 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054-4601 in Camilo Santana’s name.

Vito Coviello

Avid player of the accordion

Vito Coviello passed away surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was born in Bonito, Avellino, Italy October 15, 1934 to Arcangelo Coviello and Teresa Tordiglione.

As a child, he worked the farm with his parents and siblings.

Vito was an avid player of the accordion which he learned to play by ear as a child. Always called upon to play for his friends in barn parties. After attending high school in Italy, he joined the Carabinieri at 19 and trained as a telegraph operator where he served for nine years.

He later married his love, Rosina Di Minico and immigrated to the US to start a family. They settled in Eastie and raised their daughter, Angela, later moving to Winthrop.

He also enjoyed telling stories of growing up with his siblings and relating what it was like growing up during German occupation.

He was the loving father of Angela Theresa Coviello-Gear and her husband, Steven of Winthrop, cherished grandfather of Steven Patrick Gear, dear brother of Alfonso Coviello, Luigua Losanno, Gino Coviello, Maria Theresa Zullo, Chiarina Goccia, Severino Coviello and Ugo Coviello.

The funeral was conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Monday, January 27, 2025 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Services concluded with the interment in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
