Vincenzo “Jimmy” Grasso

A proud, hardworking and friendly person

Vincenzo S. “Jimmy” Grasso of East Boston passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 98 years of age. He was predeceased in 2013 by his wife of 63 years, Gladys (McAuley) Grasso. Vincenzo was a lifelong resident of East Boston born to parents Pasquale and Adeline (Fasano) Grasso.

Vincenzo was known as a proud, hard-working, and friendly person. In his youth, Vincenzo enlisted in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a shipbuilder at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and for the City of Boston, Department of Public Works.

In his younger days, Vincenzo traveled extensively with his wife on vacations around the world. In his leisure time, Vincenzo enjoyed taking long walks throughout East Boston and having conversations, often joking with his friends and neighbors. Vincenzo enjoyed gardening, attending weekly church services, and caring deeply for his numerous dogs over the years.

Vincenzo had many siblings and is survived by his sisters, Yolanda Roycroft of Revere, Flora Malacaso of East Boston and by many nieces and nephews in the Boston area, New Hampshire, Maine, Louisiana, California, and Florida.

Vincenzo lived a full life. He will be sorely missed, yet fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Family and friends wishing to honor Vincenzo’s life are invited to gather at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, East Boston on Monday, July 8th from 9 to 11 a.m. with a prayer service following visiting hours. Vincenzo will be laid to rest with his late wife, Gladys, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm Street in Everett. May they rest in the Lord’s Peace.
