Zero New COVID Cases for the Second Week in a Row in Eastie

For the second time since the pandemic began, no East Boston residents tested positive for COVID according to the latest data released by the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC). 

Eastie’s weekly COVID positive test has been one percent or below for over a month now and this was the second week in a row that no resident tested positive for the virus. 

Last week, 817 Eastie residents were tested for the virus, and zero percent were positive–a 100 percent decrease from the 0.6 percent reported by the BPHC three weeks ago. 

Of the 43,320 Eastie residents tested for COVID since the pandemic began, 17.9 percent overall were found to be positive for the virus. This was a decrease of 0.55 percent from the 18 percent reported by the BPHC two weeks ago. 

Citywide, the weekly positive test rate remained the same last week. According to the BPHC 11,781 residents were tested and 0.4 percent were COVID positive–this was the same percentage reported by the BPHC two weeks ago.

Eastie’s COVID infection rate increased only 0.03 percent in two weeks and went from 1,652.9 cases per 10,000 residents to 1,653.4 cases per 10,000 residents. 

Two additional residents contracted the virus since June 25 and there are now 7,759 confirmed cases in the neighborhood since the start of the pandemic. 

The statistics released by the BPHC as part of its weekly COVID19 report breaks down the number of cases and infection rates in each neighborhood. It also breaks down the number of cases by age, gender and race. Citywide positive cases of coronavirus increased 0.06 percent last week and went from 70,998 cases to 70,998 confirmed cases in a week. One additional Boston resident died from the virus last week and there are now 1,393 total deaths in the city from COVID
