Paula Vitale of Lynn, formerly of East Boston, passed away surrounded by her loving family of April 18 at the age of 59.

The loving daughter of Paul Vitale, Angelina (Grassa) and Sugie Moriello, she was the devoted mother of Desiree Silveira and her husband, Michael of Lynn and Brianna Forbes and her husband, Michael of East Boston, the beloved wife of the late Jesse James; dear sister of Sharon Cabral and her husband, Tom and the late Debra Emmett and Michele Vitale and adored grandmother of Michael, Justin, Angelina, Julianna, Talia and Anthony. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Fredy Alberto Ramirez

Great Chef Who Will Be Sorely Missed By All Who Knew Him

Fredy Alberto Ramirez of Revere, formerly of Colombia, passed away unexpectedly on April 10 at the age of 50.

Fredy was a great chef who enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was an avid Barcelona futbol fan and never missed a match. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Goodbye hurts the most when the story wasn’t finished.

Born in Santa Rosa De Osos, Colombia to Maria (Gomez) and the late Gonzalo Ramirez, he was the devoted father of Christopher and Brian Ramirez and cherished stepfather to Duvan Lopera and Mateo Tobon; adored brother of Luz Ramirez, Jader Ramirez and Astrid Ramirez, all of Colombia and Sandra Ramirez of Revere. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Adelina Martucci

Of East Boston

Adelina (Barletta) Martucci, in Wakefield of East Boston, passed away peacefully on April 17.

She was the beloved wife of the late Agostino Martucci, devoted mother of Enzo and his wife, Susan Martucci of North Carolina, Bruno and his wife, Cindy Martucci of Stoneham and Angela Imbriano and her husband, Felix of New Bedford; cherished grandmother of seven grandchildren and one great-grand son.

Joseph (Buddy) Penta

Sept. 18, 1919 – April 10, 2020  

Joseph (Buddy) Penta, born in East Boston, the beloved son of Anthony J. Penta and Mary Crescio Penta, died on April 10.  An East Boston resident all his life, he died at the age of 100.  

After serving proudly in the US Army Air Force (ATC) in World War II, he was honorably discharged, came home, got married and started a family. He began working as a car cleaner, inspector and mechanic with Conrail RR. He had a long, successful career there until he retired.  

After his retirement, he became active in the local community.  He was president of the Holy Name Society and a member of St. Vincent De Paul, where he volunteered his time to help others. His favorite pastime was singing, which he did often, and was a delight to many. He performed in variety shows, sang with his brother at nursing homes and joined the church choirs at St. Lazarus Church and later at the Don Orione Shrine.  He loved reading, crossword puzzles watching TV and most of all, his home and family.

He was the devoted husband of the late Grace E. (Caggiano) and a loving, proud father to his seven children whom he leaves behind: son, Stephen Penta and his wife, Lorrie of Winthrop; daughter, Marilyn Elliott and her husband, Peter of Medford.; daughter, Ruth Penta Steele and her husband, Mark of Salem;  son, Arthur Penta and his wife, Yaping of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Valerie Morelli and her husband, Bruce of Amherst, NH; daughter, Lisa Penta of Clearwater, FL; and daughter, Christine Penta of Swampscott.  

He brought much love and laughter to all his extended family, including his twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was the last family member to survive in his family.  His brothers were Ernest, John, Vincent and Robert Penta.  His two sisters were Louise Phaneuf and Charlotte Penta.  So well-loved, he will always be remembered with a song in his heart and forever hold a very special place in ours.

Josephine Pelosi

Will Be Remembered for Her Love of Family, as Well as Her Kind, Strong, yet Often Sharp Personality

Josephine M. (Colluccini) Pelosi died in East Boston on Easter Sunday, April 12, at 96 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Pelosi and mother of the late M. Kim Pelosi. She is survived by Kim’s fiancé, Jim Baglio and many cousins. Josephine was born to Pasquale and Josephine (DeGrutolla) Colluccini and raised and educated in East Boston along with her late brothers, John and Jerry Colluccini.  She married John Pelosi, the love of her life, and they shared many happy years together until his passing in 2008. 

Josephine was a dedicated mother to her treasured daughter, Kim. 

Being the eldest of many cousins, she was lovingly referred to as “Auntie” by all those who will remember her charm, grace and impeccable style. 

She worked for many years at the Bank of Boston and also at Filene’s Basement, where she was able to delight in fulfilling her sense of style and taste.

She will be remembered for her love of family, as well as her kind, strong, yet often sharp personality.

Anthony Santosuosso, Sr., of East Boston, passed away peacefully on April 15. 

The loving son of Josephine Santosuosso and the late Anthony, he was the devoted father of Anthony Santosuosso Jr., dear brother of Carmella Mattera and her husband, Michael of East Boston, Phyllis Camarca-Christian and her husband, Ecedro Christian of Wakefield and Joseph Santosuosso of East Boston and cherished grandfather of Anthony Cali and his mother, Alicia. He was the former husband of Mary Savage and the cherished uncle of Michael, John and Danny Mattera, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Avid Keno Player and Suffolk Downs Devotee

Charles A. Santoianni of Winthrop, formerly of Revere and East Boston, passed away on April 18.

A US Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict, Charles was an avid Keno player at many establishments in Revere and was a frequent visitor at the Suffolk Downs Race track. May he rest in peace.

He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (McBeth); companion of the late Katherine Gleason; loving father of Susan Giarratani and her husband, Robert of Winthrop and Tonimarie Hanton and her husband, Joseph of Methuen; dear brother of Robert Santoianni and his wife, Elaine of Peabody. He is also survived by four loving grandchildren: Samantha, Joseph, Robert Alexander and Jamie and one loving great grandchild, Michael James as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lucille Abate

25-Year Mass Dept. of Revenue Employee

Services were held privately for Lucille A. (Viola) Abate, 80, together with her husband, Adolph “Eddie” Abate, under the care and direction of the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, Revere.

Eddie passed away on April 8 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Lucille passed one week later on April 15 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Boston, both taken from the COVID – 19 Coronavirus. Eddie was 91 years old.

The couple shared 35 years of marriage together. They lived in Orient Heights in East Boston for many years, before moving to Winthrop in 2007. During their retirement they enjoyed dining out and wintering in Florida. They always cherished being surrounded with family and friends.

Lucille was born and raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High, Class of 1957. Lucille worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Revenue Division for over 25 years, first in Boston and later in Chelsea. She was an avid shopper, her family recounts that she would enjoy shopping for anything, but especially clothing.

She was the devoted wife of 35 years of the late Adolph E. “Eddie” Abate; the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Phyllis (Delavora) Viola; dear stepmother of Dr. Thomas Abate and his wife, Fengqun Luo of Revere and the late Candis A. Casaletto; cherished sister of Philip J. Viola of Winthrop, Marie Graziano and her late husband, William of Revere and the late Jean R. Scarino and her late husband, Raymond Scarino; adored aunt of Cheryl A. Vargus, Charles J. Green, Kenneth W. Green, all of Revere and the late David W. Green; grand aunt of Tiffany and Chloe Green, both of Revere.

He was a hardworking man who held several jobs throughout his life, He loved to swim and was very well known at the Boston Fish Pier where he worked for most of his life. Later in life, he worked as a shuttle bus driver for Budget Rent A Car.

Anna Irwin

Former East Boston Resident, Will Be Sadly Missed by All Who Loved and Knew Her

Anna (Carosella) Irwin of Abington, formerly East Boston, passed away on April 13. 

Anna was born in East Boston on March 16, 1934 and lived in her home on Gladstone Street with her parents and two sisters, Josie and Gracie. She graduated from Girls High School in Boston in 1949 and began working for Ma Bell.

 She and her loving husband, Jack, met at their friends’ wedding and were married one year later. They raised their three children, Eddie, Anne, and John in the same Gladstone Street home with Saint Lazarus Church and school at the center of their lives.

After losing her husband, Jack in 1984, she dedicated herself to children. She was a fantastic cook and for 30 years mailed her ‘gravy’ overnight to Los Angeles for her son, John. She traveled the world extensively, but particularly loved Italy, her parents’ homeland, but her world was her children and grandchildren, Russell and Jacqueline. She will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew her.

The beloved wife of the late John E. Irwin, she was the devoted mother of Edward of Abington, Anne Sheppard and her husband, John and John Jr., all of California; cherished grandmother of Russell and Jacqueline Rioux and dear sister of the late Josephine Cardinale and Grace D’Avella. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth “Liz” Coolidge

Will Be Lovingly Remembered for Her Kind Heart, Generous Nature and Hospitable Home

Elizabeth M. (D’Addario) “Liz” Coolidge, 71, of Melrose and formerly of East Boston, passed away peacefully at the High Pointe House in Haverhill on Sunday, April 19. 

Elizabeth was born in Boston on September 16, 1948, the daughter of the late Elena (Cervizzi) and Mario D’Addario. She was raised in the Jeffries Point section of East Boston and graduated from Girls High School in Roxbury, Class of 1966. On June 18 , 1966, she was married to East Boston native, Roscoe Coolidge and they stayed in East Boston to raise a family of three daughters.

Liz worked for many years in customer service starting at Shawmut Bank then eventually retiring from Eastern Bank. She also worked at Five Below part time, and volunteered at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Gift Shop.

An avid reader, Liz was a frequent patron of the Melrose Public Library. A great cook, she enjoyed cooking and baking her Italian specialties for all to enjoy, especially Roscoe. She was well known for making homemade pizzelle and frosted Italian cookies. With Roscoe, Liz loved yearly cruises to the Caribbean and enjoyed visiting Marco Island, FL and Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. In her free time, she enjoyed watching General Hospital, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and CSI.

Generous and humble, Liz devoted herself to her family, especially doting on her grandchildren. She took great joy in finding a good bargain while shopping for family. She was a loving aunt, cousin, in-law, neighbor, friend and co-worker to many. She considered her cousin, Marianne Gentile and her Coolidge in-laws, to be the siblings she never had and she cherished her life-long friendships. Liz held close to her heart many lifelong friendships and welcomed all with open arms and a homecooked Italian meal. Liz will be sorely missed, but always lovingly remembered for her kind heart, generous nature, and hospitable home.

Liz was the beloved wife of the late Roscoe L. Coolidge, Jr. with whom she shared 50 years of marriage; devoted mother of Michelle Bettano and her husband, Kenneth of Melrose, Donnaleigh Coolidge-Miller and her husband, Brian of Melrose and Lisa Coolidge-Ellis and her husband, Eric of North Plainfield, NJ; cherished grandmother of Danielle and Carly Bettano, Elizabeth Ellis and Dante and Mia Miller. She is a loving extended member of the Coolidge Family and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nicholas Guerriero, 86, a 51 year resident of Revere, passed away suddenly on April 19.

He was the beloved husband of the late Rosemarie (Moscato) for 50 years, father of Anthony Thomas Guerriero of Lynnfield and Roseanne Guerriero of Reading; son of the late Anthony Guerriero and Mary (Napolitano); brother of Catherine Cardello and Olympia Mastrocola, both of Everett, the late Philomena DiSessa of Beverly, the late Dominic Guerriero of Everett and the late Pasquale Guerriero of Wakefield; proud grandfather of two grandchildren: Karina Rose Olson and Nicholas Anthony Guerriero. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Diana Ubinas and his son-in-law, Jim Olson, Jr.

Rosemarie Guerriero

Lifelong Educator

Rosemarie (Moscato) Guerriero, 80, a resident of Revere for 51 years, formerly of Everett, died on April 9.

Rosemarie grew-up in Everett and was a life-long educator who taught at the Chandler School for Women in Boston, St. Rose High School in Chelsea, and Everett High School. She was a graduate of Everett High School, Salem State College and Boston University.

Rosemarie was a wonderful family-centered woman who gave her children and grandchildren unconditional love. In her later years, her grandchildren Karina and Nicholas provided her with much love and joy. She greeted everyone with a smile and was always quick to offer a helping hand to anyone who might need one. Rosemarie was not just a mentor to her students but also to many of her friends and family members. She was a wonderful mother-figure known for her kindness, warmth, generosity, and famous Italian storytelling and cooking. Rosemarie loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and never missed a loved one’s birthday. She will be deeply missed.

She was the beloved wife of Nicholas for 50 years, mother of Anthony Thomas Guerriero of Lynnfield and Rosanne Guerriero of Reading, loving granddaughter of the late Rosina Moscato and is also survived by her two grandchildren, Karina Rose Olson and Nicholas Anthony Guerriero, her daughter-in-law, Diana Ubinas and her son-in-law, Jim Olson, Jr.

John J. “Dicky” Denaro, in Florida, of East Boston, passed away on Wednesday, April 8.

He was the loving son of the late Joseph and Rose (Santoro) Denaro, brother of Josephine Thomson, Joann Charette, Michael Denaro, Paul and his wife, Anne Denaro., father of Ronald Smoot and companion of Tina Smoot. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, as well as a niece and nephew.
