Zumix Sing-a-Song, Send-a-Song Fundraiser Is a Hit

With Eastie’s nonprofits closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, places like Zumix have been getting creative with fundraising efforts as other money raising events have either been canceled or postponed.

Zumix, Eastie’s popular music and performing arts nonprofit, recently launched an online Sing-A-Song, Send-A-Song fundraising effort to keep a steady stream of funding for programs once life returns back to normal.

Zumix Executive Director and Founder, Madeleine Steczynski said Sing-A-Song, Send-A-Song is a way people can sing, or play on an instrument, a song dedicated to someone they are missing during this difficult time. Once you post your song to Facebook, you challenge three other people to do the same and ask them to consider donating $10 to Zumix through a donation page set up at https://www.firstgiving.com/event/zumix/SAS4ZUMIX.

Steczynski said Zumix is doing its best to continue to support youth and teaching artists through this difficult time.

“With all the stress this pandemic has caused, it’s been incredible to witness these musical, heartfelt, connections happen over time and space,” she said. “Sing-A-Song, Send-A-Song clearly shows how music is a universal language, how we are all interconnected, and how much we all care for each other. I’m grateful to be part of such a thoughtful community, and look forward to hearing live music with friends and neighbors when it’s safe to do so.”

So far Zumix has raised over $5,000 towards a $10,000 fundraising goal.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with joy and inspiration from Sing-A-Song, Send-A-Song,” said Kimberly Dawson, Director of Advancement at Zumix. “It has been incredible to see friends and strangers sharing music alongside Zumix youth, alumni, staff, and board members in this unique way.  It’s also been incredible to see just how far it has reached.  People from all over the world – the UK, the Netherlands, India, Ecuador, and Germany – have been posting videos. It’s such a beautiful way to witness how music connects us during this time of physical distancing.”
