Boston Police Report Crime Down 12 Percent in Eastie for 2019

Last week East Boston rang in the New Year, and the Boston Police had some exciting news to share about crime in the community with a 12 percent decrease in Part One Crime

Police compared two periods Jan. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2018 against Jan. 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2019.

There were 82 less Part One Crimes reported when comparing the same period in 2018 with 2019. In total there were 576 Part One Crimes compared to the 658 incidents that occurred in 2018.

In 2018, there were 221 larcenies reported, but that number dropped to 197 in 2019.

There was also a decrease in robbery and attempted robberies. In 2018 there were 81 reports of robbery and attempted robberies. That number has dropped to just 57 this year.

Residential burglaries also dropped with 74 occuring in 2018 and 48 occurring in 2019.

Non-domestic aggravated assault dropped from 80 to 49 while domestic aggravated assault increased by two from 39 reported in 2018 and 41 reported in 2019. 

Larceny from a motor vehicle increased slightly with 91 reported in 2018 and 106 reported in 2019 while auto theft dropped from 48 to 43. Other larceny dropped from 221 to 197.

Commercial burglaries became a problem in 2019 with an increase from 7 in 2018 to 23 in 2019. However, police say one man responsible for the uptick in commercial burglaries was arrested after an investigation.

Other burglaries remained the same with zero occurring in both 2018 and 2019.

Rape or attempted rape decreased  by six when compared to 2018 with 16 incidents reported last year compared to the 10 reported this year. 

Homicides increased by one with one murder in 2018 and two occuring in 2019.

Overall Eastie saw the third biggest decrease in crime behind Roxbury that saw a 16 percent reduction in crime, and South Boston that saw a 14 percent reduction in crime.

Citywide Boston experienced a five percent decrease in crime overall.
