New Date! Business and Volunteer of the Year Celebration

Mayor Martin Walsh announced the return of the “Mayor on Main” trolley tour during which the Mayor will present the 23rd Annual Boston Main Streets Awards.  These awards recognize an outstanding business owner and volunteer from the community. This year’s Eastie’s Mayor on Main tour will be held on Tuesday, July 30, at 1 p.m. at Sammy Carlos Catering & Delicatessen at 567 Bennington St in East Boston.

“I’m excited for another year of the ‘Mayor on Main’ trolley tour, which is an incredible opportunity to celebrate some of the City’s most dynamic small businesses,” said Mayor Walsh, “Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy and the backbone of our communities – they provide goods and services close to home, first jobs for our young people, and opportunities for our residents. I’m proud of initiatives like Boston Main Streets and business improvement districts, which support our local small business economy and I encourage everyone to visit, support, and explore Boston’s small, local establishments.”

You are invited to join us to celebrate Steve and Kathy Scire, owners of this year’s business of the year, Sammy Carlo’s Delicatessen & Catering, and Kannan Thiruvengadam, this year’s volunteer of the year.

The celebration will start at 1:00pm at 567 Bennington Street on Tuesday, July 30th.  Refreshments and light food will be provided.  “I am absolutely thrilled about this year’s award recipients who truly embody what is best about our East Boston Community – hard work, compassion, kindness, and a true sense of community.  I am also tremendously excited that we are able to perform a ribbon-cutting for Sammy Carlos at this event to introduce the public to a fully refurbished business that has been a touchstone in Eastie for three generations,” said Max Gruner, director of East Boston Main Streets.
