Maverick Community Connector Seeks to Build Bonds Between Old and Emerging Communities in the Neighborhood

The Maverick Community Connector, an event by Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) took place Friday, July 20 at LoPresti Park’s New street entrance. The event, the first of what will be an annual event, was designed to build community between Maverick Landing residents and residents from surrounding newer communities such as The Eddy and emerging communities such as BostonEast– also lead partners on the event.

State Rep Adrian Madaro, Executive Director of Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) Rita Lara and Maverick Landing youth helped to conceive of the event after a group conversation earlier this year about the changing neighborhood and the need to build community and provide opportunities for neighbors to get to know each other.

Robert Lewis Jr., a former resident at Maverick prior to its redevelopment and current Founder and CEO of The BASE, The Maverick Association of Residents (MAR), VROCC Children’s Dance group, and Nick Durkee, a resident from The Eddy were recognized with Maverick Community Connector awards.

The event highlighted local talent such as the ZumixDiverCity band and The Veronica Robles Cultural Center (VROCC) children’s cultural dance group.

Event sponsors included champion sponsors Trinity Development and Management Companies and The Boston Foundation (TBF) who sponsored the event in honor of Robert Lewis Jr. Lead sponsors also included The David Company and HYM Investment Group LLC.
