Ed Deveau Named One of the Top Realtors in Boston

East Boston realtor and resident Ed Deveau recently received the 2017 Centurion Award by Century 21 for being one of the top realtors in the Boston area, as well as one of the top 25 Century 21 realtors in the country.

Deveau, who began his career in politics as former Chief of Staff for Senator Anthony Petruccelli, as well as a candidate for East Boston state representative, began his career in real estate four years ago at Century 21 Mario Real Estate on Bennington Street.

The Centurion Award is given out annually by Century 21 to its top agents, both nationally and internationally, and is based on very strict criteria relative to homes sold, adjusted commissions and other factors. There are other awards given by Century 21, but very few agents are given Centurion Producer status. In fact, less than 1 percent of all agent receive it.

“In addition to being one of the top producers in East Boston’s number one real estate sales team, Century 21 Mario Real Estate, I was also among the top 25 Century 21 Agents in all of Eastern New England,” said Deveau.

The East Boston Times sat down for an interview with Deveau to talk a little about the real estate market here in Eastie.

East Boston Times: How long have been in the real estate game so far?

Ed Deveau: I have been a full time Realtor for about four years.  Prior to that I spent 13 years working in the Massachusetts Legislature, which coincidentally allowed me to work on a lot of the positive development going on in East Boston, well before I focused my career on Real Estate.

EBT: How’s the market in Eastie been when compared to when you first started? Up, down, the same?

ED: The market in East Boston remains incredibly strong.  With a booming waterfront, several new restaurants, an incredible parks system , and close proximity to Downtown Boston, East Boston is by far one of the hottest neighborhoods in the city.

EBT: What are selling the quickest..condos, multi-families?

ED: My theory is that if a property is priced appropriately, it will sell quickly and for good money, regardless of time, season, or market. It is a double-edged sword: multi-family homes are in demand because condos are in demand. The more people that come into the neighborhood and purchase condos, the more opportunity there is to convert existing three-families to meet those demands. In terms of the local real estate market, the hope is that this trend will continue, but with interest rates rising over the past few months it may become a little more difficult for first-time buyers to get financing. I’ve been thrilled to see many first-time homebuyers benefit from historically low interest rates over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to help several new buyers purchase their home before interest rates spike up again. Also, if you’re thinking of selling your home within the next three to five years, NOW is the time to do it. Demand is high and inventory is low. When interest rates jump up, we may see a leveling off of what have been all-time high home prices.

EBT: How’s is working with the Century 21 Mario Real Estate team? –

ED: Joe Mario and Century 21 Mario have been the number 1 real estate company every year in East Boston for over 25 years.  Being able to work with and learn from someone with so much institutional knowledge has made me a far better realtor and I credit a lot of my success to being able to work with Joe and his nephew, Tom Mario, on a daily basis.

EBT: What have you learned the most during your time there?

ED: With so much information being so readily available with ever-changing technology, consumers are smarter and more knowledgeable about real estate than ever before. Therefore, it’s not only important to be knowledgeable about the market; you also have to constantly learn and grow to be a successful agent. Most importantly, buying or selling a home is a BIG DEAL!  It is probably the biggest financial decision someone will ever make, so I’ve learned that it is really important to treat every deal with the utmost attention. For me, it’s not about quick sales, it’s about forming relationships with clients, taking the time to answer questions, and helping them from getting pre-approved to their closing and beyond. Regardless of how easy HGTV makes it look to buy or sell a home, people depend on a Realtor to help them through what can be a pretty daunting process and in this business, your reputation is everything. When people work with me, they can do so confidently.

EBT: Anything else you’d like to add?

ED: As great as 2017 was, I’m very excited about 2018.  The Spring market is going to be extremely busy and even more so for the team at Century 21 Mario because we’re opening up the brand-new Century 21 Seaport in Jeffries Point in the spring, as well as taking over Century 21 Seacoast in Winthrop.
