Coach Arinella says Eastie AquaJets Will Rebound from Tough Season

The East Boston High School swim team suffered through a winless season for the first time in  their history, yet Head Coach Dave Arinella remains optimistic about the  future of his team.

He told us, “We knew going into this season that because we had lost 14 seniors and  that our Division 1 schedule was very difficult that we would be hard-pressed to find victories.”

Coach Arinella said he feels strongly that the AquaJets will be heard from again in a year or two.  “We have some great young talent and swimmers who are not afraid to do the things they need to do to get faster,” said Arinella. “We finished third in the City Championship and the coaching staff got some excellent performances from our returning swimmers.  We give a shout out to our seniors, Captain Emelie Gonzalez, Captain Serena Rizzo, Captain Salim Medjahed, Rob Catrone and Alejandro Gomez, we will certainly miss their talents.”

At the City Championship Ramy Laribi, a freshman, won the gold medal in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.34.

Arinella said Laribi, along with Mike Forbes, Nate Rodriguez, Arnold Guzman , Theresa Forbes , Evelyn Ocegueda and Aya Merzouk are just a few of the returning swimmers with loads of talent for the AquaJets.

Arinella also praised his two assistant coaches John Hall and Daniel Marifiote who are two former EBHS swimmers.

“John and Daniel are the best assistant coaches in the city,” said Arinella.
