EHCA Votes to Grant Beer and Wine License

The Eagle Hill Civic Association (EHCA) recently voted 18-4 in favor of granting a beer and wine license to a new store that plans to open at 402 Saratoga St.

The proponents of the beer and wine license, Julius Sokol and Matthew Gateman, have already purchased the building, which includes residential units, and performed a rehab of the property.

Sokol and Gateman plan to use the first floor, which has not been used as a business for some time but is still zoned for commercial use, as an upscale beer and wine shop.

“They plan to make it a conviant stop for residents in the area,” said their attorney, Lorene Schettino. “They will offer a good selection of wine and will focus primarily on craft beers.”

The owners said they want to help fill the demand of craft beer in the neighborhood–a popular choice among young professionals moving to the neighborhood that opt for small batch IPAs over the mass produced American Lagers from the top breweries.
