East Boston Little League Announces Plans for 2016 Youth Baseball Season

By Cary Shuman

There is snow covering the fields but East Boston Little League (EBLL) president Chucky Cassaro is getting his organization ready for the 2016 baseball season.

Cassaro is beginning his third year as president but he deflects credit for the league’s resurgence to other board members.

“We could never have run this organization without the core members who have been with me the last couple of years who are vice president Nick Mosca and treasurer Dr. Robert Gilbride,” said Cassaro. “It’s a huge commitment and responsibility.”

Eldon Thomas has also returned to the board while the other new board members are Lenny Cambria, Adam Pearson, and Nicole DaSilva.

“We’re really proud to be part of the largest youth sports organization in the world, which is Little League,” said Cassaro.

EBLL will hold registration clinics for the new season on the next three Fridays (Jan. 29, Feb. 5, and Feb. 12) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Salesian Boys and Girls Club and the next three Saturdays (Jan. 30, Feb. 6, and Feb. 13) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon) at the Martin Pino Orient Heights Center gymnasium. Boys and girls, ages 6 to 16, are welcome to sign up for the new season. Tryouts will be held Sunday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Orient Heights Center gymnasium.

More than 220 boys and girls competed in the league last year. “Little League is about not only teaching how to play baseball but life lessons as well,” said Cassaro
