Malden/East Boston Youth Hockey Summary

This week, we feature the Squirts, who came out of the weekend with the only win for MEB, with the other teams having some tough outings against tougher opponents.

On Saturday afternoon in West Roxbury, playing with a shortened bench, the MEB Squirts (9-10 Years Old) overcame a sluggish start to extend their winning streak to four with a 9-2 victory over Parkway.  Trailing 1-0, MEB responded with a goal from Ryan Thomas on a pass from Chad Robertson.  It was Chris Cecca that lit the lamp next to give MEB a lead it would not relinquish.  A goal by Gigi DeMarco and another by Thomas completed the period scoring and a 4-1 MEB lead.  Preston Tully started in net and turned away all shots his way after letting in the first on tough shot from the circle.  DeMarco and Cecca added their second goals of the game in the second as MEB took a 6-1 lead after 2 periods.  Jacob Thomas took over the goaltending and allowed just a breakaway goal, but closed the door to secure the win.  In the 3rd period it was only Robertson who found the net as he tallied the ìnaturalî hat trick with 3 consecutive goals.  MEB got great defensive play from Cristian Monge, Mathew Cochran and Jackie Summers, who was flying around the ice all game.  The MEB squirts are off to a fast start to the season at 4-0 and look to extend to 5-0 with a game vs Natick this upcoming weekend.

In other news, the MEB Learn-to-Skate and Play Hockey program kicks off on Wednesday October 21 at 6:00 PM at the Porrazzo Rink in East Boston.  This year, thanks to funding from the Mike Cheever Grow Hockey grant, we will have 28 skaters joining the instructors on the ice free of charge (just 2 more free spots available). The Hockey Clinic is a basic learn to skate, learn to play hockey program, for both boys and girls, with two one-hour practices a week. There are three levels taught; learn-to-skate, basic skills, and advanced skills. The Clinic is held in two sessions, twice a week in East Boston – on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00PM and on Sundays from 11:30AM-12:30PM.
