Charles ‘Choo Choo Charlie’ Catino

Retired Truck Driver

Charles Catino (fondly nicknamed “Charlie The Snake/Choo Choo Charlie” Catino), a lifelong resident of East Boston living most of his life at 143 Cottage Street, died on July 7 at Boston Medical Center.

A US Army veteran of World War II who served from 1943 to 1945, he worked many years as a truck driver for Crockett Trucking. Charlie enjoyed spending his free time on Engage Trains and Corvettes.

He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Williams) Kleinschmidt Catino; father of Doreen Kleinschmidt of Jamaica Plain; dear brother of the late Carol Beluscio, Anthony and Rocky Catino and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St Anthony’s Church in Revere on Saturday August 9 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to the charity of one’s choice. For guest book, please visit www.Buonfiglio.

Karen Previte

Teacher’s Aide

Karen J. (Santarpio) Previte of East Boston died on July 10.

She worked as a teacher’s aide at Fort Banks School, Winthrop.

The beloved wife of John Previte, she was the devoted mother of John and his wife, Katie of East Boston, Christopher and his wife, Jilane of Winthrop and Stephen Previte; dear sister of Victor Santarpio of Salem; loving daughtrer of the late Victor and Mary (Todesco) Santarpio and adored grandmother of Juliana , Nathan, Emma, Jenna and Nicholas. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St. (Orient Heights) East Boston today, Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. before leaving in procession to St. Joseph St Lazarus Church for a Funeral Mass in honor of Karen’s life at 10 a.m. Services will conclude in the chapel of Woodlawn Cemetery.

Nancy Manganaro

Of East Boston

Nancy I. (Firicano) Manganaro of East Boston died on July 12.

She was the beloved wife of the late John G.; devoted mother of John A. and his wife, Janice of Peabody and Sal of East Boston; dear sister of Fara Scaperotti of the North End of Boston, Anthony Firicano of Woburn and Richard Firicano of the North End of Boston and the late Josephine Giacalone, Provie Noyes and Frank and Sammy Firicano; cherished grandmother of Alycia and Jonathan.

Family and friends will honor Nancy’s life by gathering on Friday, July 18 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St. (Orient Heights) East Boston before leaving in procession to St. Joseph St. Lazarus Church for a Funeral Mass in celebration of Nancy’s life at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with Nancy being laid to rest with her beloved husband, John at Woodlawn Cemetery. Charles Edward Small

Worked for General Ship and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute

Charles Edward Small of East Boston died suddenly on July 6. He was 67 years old.

A former shipyard worker for General Ship and an engineer for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, he was the son of the late Samuel and Eleanor (Carlson) Small; husband of Mary (Toni) Small; father of Anthony and Samuel Small and Nichole Small Aiken; grandfather of Donovan, Trevon, Anthony, Jr. and Giovanni Small, Patrick, Jr. and Justin Aiken and Toni-Marie, Feedle and Felicia Small great grandfather of Zachary Small; brother to Carol Kilbreth, Catherine Clapp, Patricia Brown, Lillian Nesbit, Ronaele Polito, Samuel and Suzanne Small and the late Marion Cheffro, William Small, Barbara McCormack and Eleanor Shepherd.

At Charlie’s request there will be no services. Cremation and burial at sea will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Welsh Funeral Home of Chelsea.

Rosemarie C. (Vitale ) Leone

Of East Boston

Rosemarie C. (Vitale ) Leone of East Boston died on July 12 at the Mass General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

The beloved wife of Frank Leone with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Ralph Leone and his wife, Marie of Medford, Kenneth Leone and his wife, Lucille of Saugus, Frank Leone Jr. and his wife, Patricia, Annette Fiantago and her husband, Carl and Paul Leone, all of East Boston; adored daughter of the late Rocco and Antonetta ( Blasi ) Vitale; dear sister of Mary Giorgio of East Boston and the late Carmella De Angelis, Antonetta Cucchiello, Michael, Anthony “Ferrel”, Modestino “Musty” and Paul Vitale; cherished grandmother of Tina, Chris, Frankie, Nicole, Anthony and Kenneth Leone Jr., Deanna and Carl Fiantago Jr.

Family and friends will honor Rosemarie’s life by gathering in Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home 262 Beach Street, Revere this morning, Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to the Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks St., East Boston for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in her honor at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
