Police Still Searching for Driver

East Boston detectives are still searching for the mystery man that crashed a SUV into the front of Burger King, injuring three people, and fled the scene.

On July 3 at 8 a.m. officers from District 7 responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at Burger King on Bennington Street in Orient Heights.

When police arrived they found a brown Ford Explorer half way into the Burger King building. The vehicle was unoccupied, shut off, and the key was still in the ignition.

Boston Fire and EMS were already treating three elderly victims when police arrived. The victims, one 89-years-old, one 73 and the other a 69-year-old male were all transported to Mass General Hospital with non- life threatening injuries.

Witnesses on scene said the driver of the vehicle fled on foot.

He is described as a Hispanic male about 5’06’ tall, medium build, dark short hair, clean-shaven, wearing a dark shirt, black shorts and glasses. Witnesses said the same man returned moments later and retrieved a black bag from inside the vehicle and fled once again behind the building toward Orient Heights.

A short time later a male arrived at District 7 with an El Salvador passport in hand and reported he was the owner of the vehicle involved with the motor vehicle accident at Burger King. He did not match the description of the driver given by witnesses on scene.

He told officers the Explorer is utilized as a livery vehicle and has multiple drivers. He also said he gave the keys to his friend this morning at about 6:30 a.m. but could not identify the ‘friend”.
