Last week, Diane Modica was installed as the President of the East Boston Chamber of Commerce.
Modica is among the most widely known and supremely capable women in this neighborhood, having served as a Boston City Councilor from East Boston. She was also serving as Vice-President of the Chamber before moving up to head it.
She takes over the presidency of the Chamber during a crucial time in its long history.
The city is gearing up for a major development era here and the waterfront appears ready, finally, to go.
The possible coming of a casino at Suffolk Downs is another major reason for the Chamber to exist as Modica takes over.
She said last week that she will preside over a Chamber that wants to protect members interests so that they will benefit and prosper from both large scale and small scale growth opportunities.
We couldn’t agree with her more.
We welcome Diane Modica to the position as President of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Board has made a good decision.
