21 Year-old Resident Stabbed on Saturday: Police Need Help in Solving Christmas Eve Murder

Police have released the name of the man killed on Christmas Eve just two days shy of his 21stbirthday on Meridian Street.

Felipe Ospina was ready to celebrate Christmas and later his 21stbirthday with family and friends, but someone put an end to his life instead.

Ospina was found in the area of 100 Meridian Street suffering from an apparent stab wound at 5:40 p.m. on Christmas Eve. He was rushed by ambulance to Mass General where he was later pronounced dead.

Edgar Ospina, the boy’s father, told the Boston Globe Monday that his son was a great and very lovely person and the entire Ospina family is devastated by this senseless act.

Witnesses in the businesses that line the usually quite Main Streets district said they observed two men arguing near where Ospina was later found.

The hustle and bustle of last minute Christmas shopping on the street lined with decorated storefronts for the Holidays was quickly interrupted as dozens of police cars descended on the scene. Police roped off the area with tape and officers searched the area for a possible suspect in the killing.

The Boston Police Homicide Unit is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470.

Community members wanting to assist this investigation anonymously can either call the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1(800) 494-TIPS or text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department will stringently protect the identity of all individuals who wish to remain anonymous.
