Playoffs Kick off in Grand Fashion

Last Tuesday evening, at the Porazzo Rink The quest for the EBMHL Cup began for 6 teams. It was an evening of amazing hockey, near upsets, and a huge letdown. Game one of the evening saw the Comets, who were the cellar dwellers for the entire season, show up fired up and ready to go against league power Bill Ash’s Lounge.

The Comets were strong right out of the gates as they were flying all over the ice attacking Bill Ashe’s from all angles. After key goals from Dave Berardinelli, Mike Marcinkowski, and Vinny Schettino the Comets held a surprising 3-1 lead in what looked like it was going to be the upset the year. Not this evening.

Bill Ash’s jumped on the back of its seasoned vets Tony Silvestri and Darrell Interbartolo as they stormed back and deflated the Comets who seemed to have vanished from the ice in the final stanza as Bill Ash’s walked away with the 6-3 win and a birth in the EBMHL semifinals.

Scoring for Bill Ash’s were Silvestri with a pair, Interbartolo with a pair, and Ray Khan ad Mike O’Brien with the solo goals. Game 2 pitted Sound Decision up against another league force, Urban Sun Tanning.

All in attendance at Porazzo were treated to one heck of a hockey game as these two teams did battle up and down the ice for 3 periods.

Goaltenders Mike Gregorio and Nick Rossi were standing on their heads in this one, going save for save throughout the game. After 3 periods, the teams were deadlocked at two with Dominic DiMarzo and Larry McGahey doing the scoring for Sound Decision and Jeff Delpidio and Shawn Smith scoring for UST.

No one deserved to lose this one, but as you know someone had to and a minute into the overtime Shawn Smith of UST buried a loose puck to give UST the win and drive the dagger through the chests of Sound Decision.

Last and definitely not least, the boys of The 113 Club took on league newcomers Yellow Taxi.

The 113 Club went into this one fired up and poised for a huge win over an iffy at best Yellow Taxi squad, but ran into a hot goaltenderBill a right from the start, as Mario Long turned away shot after shot. 113 would ever find their rhythm in this one as the Yellow Taxi offense swarmed the 113 defense and goalie Tony Dandrea, which led to a very surprising early exit for The 113 Club as they lost 5-1.

Peter Hanlon was able to muster up one single tally for the 113 Club while Yellow Taxi got their scoring from Paul Monzione, Rob Pendola, and Jared Waitt.

This week we will see the semifinal matchups bewteen Bill Ashes Lounge as they take on Urban Sun Tanning in the opening game of the evening. Game 2 pits the East Boston Yacht Club up against Yellow Taxi as their quest for the EBMHL cup continues.
