Marco Enzo Giangregorio

East Boston resident

Marco Enzo Giangregorio of East Boston died on June 19.

He was the beloved son of Lorenzo and the late Giovanna (Giammarco) Giangregorio; loving brother of Ralph Giangregorio of Haverhill, Marilyn Orlowski and her husband, Steven, of West Peabody, Michael Giangregorio of East Boston and Pasquale Giangregorio and his wife, Nancy, of Revere; cherished grandson of Rita Giammarco of Italy. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held from The Rapino Memorial Home, 9 Chelsea St., (Maverick Sq.) East Boston on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, Brooks Street, East Boston at 10 a.m. The family will receive visitors today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Geraldine "Gerri" Costa of East Boston died on June 20. She was 67 years old.

The cherished daughter of the late Albert and Josephine (Nazzaro) Costa, she was the loving sister of Lorraine LaRossa and her husband, John; beloved aunt of Michele Sheehan and her husband, Thomas, Karen Anderson and her husband, Richard, and Maria LaRossa and her Fiancé Jesse Chambers; great aunt of Kyle, Alec, Ryan, and Ashley and is also survived by many loving friends.

Michelle Smiddy

Of North Carolina, formerly of East Boston

Michelle F. (McDonald) Smiddy of Hillsborough N.C. formerly of East Boston, died on May 13. She was 43 years old.

A Celebration of her life will be held in St. Joseph St. Lazarus Church, 59 Ashley St., East Boston on Saturday June 26 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. After the church, family and friends are invited to share stories and good times at the Beachmont VFW Bennington St., Beachmont at the East Boston line.

William Smaldone

Of Chelmsford, formerly of East Boston

William A. Smaldone, a resident of Chelmsford for 41 years, formerly of Everett and East Boston, died June 17 at home. He was 78 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Frances L. (Galinis) with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage. He was born in East Boston, son of the late John C. and Mildred (Moccia) Smaldone. He graduated from East Boston High School in 1949 and attended classes at Lowell University. He served in Korea during the Korean War and received a Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant and Service Ribbon with Bronze Star and attained the rank of Staff Sgt. Prior to retirement he was employed by McGraw Edison and Cooper Power Systems in Marketing and Sales for over 47 years. During retirement he volunteered at the Chelmsford Police Dept., Community Team Work, and the Nashoba Valley Technical High School.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and one daughter. William F. and Christine of Westborough, Kenneth and Janet of Exeter, NH, David of Needham, and Patricia of Portland, OR; one brother, John and his wife, Sylvia Smaldone, of Chelmsford; four grandchildren, Colton and Annie Smaldone of Exeter, NH, Nicholas Smaldone and Trey Howes of Westborough and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas J. Hall Jr. of Lynnfield, formerly of East Boston, died on June 17.

The beloved husband of Marie ( Schraffa ) Hall with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, he was the loving father of Thomas Hall and his wife, Christine, of Peabody, James Hall and Susan Sirois and her husband, Todd, all of Lynnfield, Ronald Hall and his wife, Christine, of Rowley and Laurie Carney and her husband, James, of Westford; dear brother of Phyllis Pizzi and Carol Kane of East Boston, Marilyn Miner of Oregon, Patty Bolognese of Ipswich and the late Eleanor Tramonte and Audrey Gambale. He was the cherished grandfather of five grandchildren.

Clara ( DiPietro) Vazza of Orient Heights East Boston died on June 18. She was in her 98th year.

A member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, she was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Amerigo "Al" Vazza with whom she shared 69 years of marriage; loving mother of Louis Vazza and Evelyn Cassiani of East Boston and Barbara Gulino and her husband, Charles, of Winchester; dear sister of Lydia Torrelli of Belmont and the late Silvio and Ralph Di Pietro; cherished grandmother of Louis A. Vazza and his wife, Nancy, of Revere, Marissa Lazor MD and her husband, John Lazor MD of Westwood, Carla Conigliaro and her husband, Douglas Conigliaro MD, of Dedham, Erica Fiore and her husband, John Fiore DMD, of Westwood and Andrea Mackey and her husband, J. John Mackey MD, of Winchester and the late Joseph Gulino and 18 great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Concezio and Rosina (Marini) DiPietro and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Joseph Maglione

Revere City Worker

Joseph A. Maglione of Revere died unexpectedly on June 15, his 26th birthday.

A graduate of Revere High School, Class of 2002, he was a heavy motor equipment operator for the City of Revere. He was a motorcycle enthusiast often riding to benefit several area charitable organizations.

He was the beloved son of Joseph and Karyn (Melchionno) Maglione, with whom he made his home; devoted brother of Nicholas A. and cherished grandson of Nicholas and Phyllis Melchionno and the late George & Florence (Giannino) Maglione; dear nephew of Lisa Melchionno, Marie Bright and George Maglione Jr., all of Revere. He is also lovingly survived by his god daughter Brianna and many grand aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Joseph Alvino

Orchestra Leader

Joseph V. Alvino of Saugus, formerly of East Boston and Revere, died unexpectedly on June 15. He was 90 years old.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a former member of Malden Moose and Revere Moose Clubs, a member of the Boston Musicians Union and was associated for over 50 years with the Joseph McNaught Orchestra and later as band leader for Joseph McNaught’s Men. At the time of his death, he was band leader of the Joe Alvino Orchestra.

He was the beloved husband of 66 years of Florence C. (Melchionda); devoted father of Mary-Lou Hagen and her husband Roy P. of West Peabody, Anthony "Tony" Alvino and his wife, Karen, of Bradford and Florence Alvino-Flanagan and her husband, James, of Wakefield; cherished grandfather of Gina Hagen-Kolenda and her husband, Robert, of West Peabody, Jodi L. Corsino and her husband, Mark, of Middleton, Anthony "Tony" Alvino Jr. and his wife, Laura, Christopher M. Alvino and his wife, Alexandra, all of Haverhill, Susan P. Hagen-Connors and her husband, Kevin, of West Peabody, Ryan J. and Shawn J. Flanagan, both of Wakefield; dear brother of Diana Campagna of Middletown, RI, Elena Tontodonato of Stoneham, Marie Fitzgibbon of Brookline, Gloria Alvino and Barbara Fitzpatrick, both of Hingham. Anthony T. Iacomino of East Boston died on June 14.

He was the beloved husband of Phyllis M. (Sozio) Iacomino; loving father of Lisa Gallotto and her husband, Gilbert, of East Boston, Diane Buono and her husband, Thomas, of Tewksbury and the late John L. Iacomino; cherished grandfather of Anthony and Gil Gallotto and Jennifer Buono; dear brother of Vincent Iacomino of New Hampshire, Stella Bellone of Chelmsford, Dolores Baldassarre of New Hampshire and the late Phyllis Doucette. Rosaria "Sara" (Carollo) Ciambra of Winthrop died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on June 12. She was 90 years old.

A member of the East Boston Elder Service of Winthrop, prior to her retirement, she worked for United Electronic Controls as an electronic assembler.

Born in Palermo, Italy, she was the beloved wife of the late Andrea Ciambra; the daughter of the late Francesco and Lucrezia (Araldi) Carollo; devoted mother of Franco Ciambra and his wife, Nina, of Palermo, Italy, Rosanna Giovenco and her late husband, Pino, of Revere, Sergio Ciambra and his wife, Mafalda, of Rome, Italy, Maurizio Ciambra and his wife, Morena, of Winthrop, Ella Maslak and her husband, Walter, of Revere, Maria Giovanna Roy and her husband, Richard, of Winthrop, and the late Antonino Ciambra; dear sister of Tony Carollo and his wife, Antonia, of Moultonborough, NH and the late Nina Lanzarone, Giovanna Amato, Rosetta Gerardi, and Tonuccia Beninati . She is also survived by her adored 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria ‘Libby’ Iovanna, 86

Of Lynnfield, formerly of East Boston

Gloria "Libby" Iovanna of Lynnfield, formerly of East Boston, died peacefully on June 12 at her daughter’s home after a short illness with her family by her side. She was 86 years old.

Born in Boston on December 8, 1923, she was the beloved daughter of Peter and Rose (DiCristoforo) Salerno. She was raised in East Boston, a graduate of East Boston High School and a longtime resident of East Boston until moving to Lynnfield six years ago.

The adored wife of the late Carmen Iovanna, she leaves her proud and loving family, daughters, Lois Cochrane of West Ossipee, NH, Norma Sarro and her husband, Gerald, of Lynnfield; grandchildren, Christine Cullison, Kimberly Thompson, Gerald Sarro and his wife, Corine, and Wesley Sarro and her great grandchildren, Kelsey Cullison, Tyler Thompson, Janine Cullison, Joel Mann and Sonny Jordan Sarro. She was the sister of the late John Salerno, Ethel Polsonetti, Linda Musto, Eleanor London and Norma Marotta.

Her wishes were to have private services at Puritan Lawn Cemetery where she will be buried alongside her childhood sweetheart and lifelong love, her husband Carmen. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home of Wakefield.
